I finally officially changed the name of my blog. Pink Lemons and Rainbows served its purpose. It helped me document a journey no one should take, yet many do. My blog needed to evolve alongside me as I practice the lessons I’ve learned along the way. I want to introduce you to Rebel Soul Mom. It took months and many weeks of brainstorming names before going back to one of my original 5 options (4 months later). Even my husband was helping me come up with names. Which ended up helping me figure out what I did NOT want my blog to be called. I say that with mad love.
How did I come up with Rebel Soul Mom?
It started with me jotting down iterations of adjectives that truthfully did not describe me. That quickly led me to words that actually DID describe me, my parenting style and creative flair. Words like misfit, simple, edgy, creative, hot mess, graceful mess (this one was already taken or it would’ve been #1) are honest representations of who I am. The words fringe, grace, soul and mess eventually led me to Rebel Soul Mom.
The word soul is the spiritual part of humans. It is the part that I strive to nourish daily with goodness. As a Christian, I believe the soul is eternal. At times it can be weak but the beautiful part is that – it can be restored. Another definition relates to the emotional or intellectual energy and intensity. For me, this blog will reveal some parts of me and life that otherwise would never be shared, but definitely relatable to many women and momma’s out there.
The word rebel can be interpreted in many ways. I’m not a bad a$$ nor do I oppose or take arms against a government or ruler as stated in the Webster’s Dictionary. However, I can honestly say that I’m in a place where I’m confident (on most days) and will not conform to what others prefer. If I go by Urban Dictionary’s definition (yes, I went there) then that is the truest definition of rebel as it relates to me.
We all have a rebel soul inside of us. It looks different for each of us. For me, it’s this:
Jamming out to Hillsong only to follow it up with what some would call, “hard-core rap”
Not fitting into any one group yet feeling safe in the land of the misfits – SAHM, WAHM, WM…what is that anyway?!
Picking up your little one early from school for no good reason other than to do something fun
Standing up for those who don’t have a platform or a voice – aka….our children, elders, etc.
To protect my children and raise them how I see fit & if ya don’t like it then… ((shoulder shrug))
I believe you can twerk and pray – so I can’t really twerk, but if I could – I would ((another shoulder shrug))
Having conversations with God which include asking forgiveness for my potty mouth earlier that day
I LOVE SKULL DESIGNS. There – I said it. I’m not ashamed to wear them out or to drop my kids off at school
I’m not domestically gifted but when I really want to, I bust out my Ajax + bleach (it’s a Spanish thing), make everything sparkle, organize like a boss and still have time to make a bomb meal
Wearing nice jeans styled with a blazer and/or sweater and calling that business casual
If you pull the millennial card on me then I get rights to pull the old school card on you
See…my rebel soul isn’t so bad. I’m sure many of my friends and readers can relate to the above descriptions. How are you a rebel soul?
